What is a research paper?
In simple words research papers can be defined as an essay that you write after thorough and in-depth research is done on the topic that you chose.
But a research paper is much more than just an essay where you collect your information, cite your sources. Here you can analyze a point or argue a point. Irrespective of what you write, your research paper should be your own thinking backed up by others’ ideas and information.
What are the points to keep in mind?
Your topic should focus on a central issue that you are interested in. Limit the topics you cover according to the requirements of your paper. State your main points in your own words and back them up with proper sources and citations.
Incorporate details by paraphrasing ideas and words from your sources, leave out the unnecessary details, and use different words and sentences.
Use quotations when the author's words are especially well-chosen or memorable. When you quote even a short phrase, copy the exact words, enclose them in quotation marks, and cite the name of the author or speaker.
Anything that is not a piece of common knowledge should be cited with the name of the author or speaker.
